Promotional Products Company Co-Founder Lauded as World’s Greatest Backyard Athlete
Life is good for Scott Alterman, co-founder of The Icebox.
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) August 21, 2008 — Scott Alterman, co-founder of Atlanta-based promotional products and corporate apparel supplier, The Icebox, recently made athletic history as the winner of the acclaimed World’s Greatest Backyard Athlete competition, held July 19, 2008 on Boston Common in Boston, MA.

The competition is an annual pledge-driven event sponsored by the Life is good Kids Foundation to raise money for charity. This year, more than 80 individuals competed in this friendly, low-key competition for the coveted title while raising funds for Project Joy, a Boston-based non-profit organization whose mission is to use the healing power of play to transform children impacted by violence, poverty and loss into healthy and joyful players in the game of life.
The event, which is the centerpiece of the annual Life is good® festival in Boston, is sponsored by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. The competition features men and women from around the country putting their athletic skills to the test through a variety of old-fashioned backyard games, including frisbee toss, bocce, watermelon seed spitting, and a wiffle ball home run derby. All competing athletes commit to raise at least $1,000 for the Life is good Kids Foundation. This year’s competition raised $630,634.00.
True to the philosophy of The Icebox, Scott was able to put his athletic prowess to work for a worthy cause. “This was an amazing event and of course it’s awesome to be the winner,” says Scott. “But, the best part was helping raise money for Project Joy, which works to bring joy to lives of children in need. Everyone wins in this competition and I can’t wait to return again.” Click here to see video highlights from the competition.
The Icebox has long been known for its altruistic initiatives in the local Atlanta community. Through its philanthropic division, Common Threads, the company donates school supplies to needy children around Atlanta and provides promotional items for worthwhile causes such as the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s annual Hunger Walk campaign, the Lance Armstrong Foundation golf tournament, the Relay For Life events across the country, and the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk, to name a few. The company’s philanthropic spirit is reflected in the enthusiasm of its employees, who are often on hand to lend their assistance at charity events.
